German seaside locations face rising costs and safety risks

German coastal destinations are facing different challenges regarding tourism and safety. In Scharbeutz, a popular Baltic Sea resort in Schleswig-Holstein, visitors face rising costs. The guest contribution (Kurtaxe) has recently increased to 3.50 euros per person per day, up from 2.80 euros. Additional expenses for beach chairs, parking, and food contribute to the total cost of a day trip.

Meanwhile, the Helenesee near Frankfurt (Oder) has become a dangerous location due to geological instability. Since 2021, the sand at the beach has been sliding toward the lake shore, creating a risk of sudden underwater landslides. These shifts can pull swimmers into deep water or trap them under heavy masses of sand, making the area hazardous despite its appearance of stability.
