German security agencies warn of rising cyber and drone threats

Google released a June security update that patched 124 Android flaws, including an exploit used in active attacks. Security experts have identified a new banking malware, NFCShare, which reads credit‑card data from smartphones via NFC, and ransomware such as DroidLock targeting Android devices. At the same time, German law‑enforcement agencies report a sharp decline in the use of IMSI‑catchers and silent‑SMS location signals, while noting an increase in fraud schemes that exploit SMS and WhatsApp messages.

The Bremen state constitutional‑protective office highlighted a surge in foreign‑state surveillance of critical infrastructure, especially the defence, aerospace sector and the ports of Bremen and Bremerhaven. Drone‑based espionage attempts have become more frequent and sophisticated, with Russia singled out for disinformation, cyber‑attacks, espionage and sabotage. Authorities also warned of heightened domestic threats from right‑wing, left‑wing and Islamist extremist groups.

Both reports call for stronger protective measures, including expanded constitutional‑protective resources, stricter legal frameworks, and routine system updates for citizens and businesses.
