German senior rescued after two days lost in Czech Switzerland

A 74‑year‑old German citizen became lost in the Bohemian Switzerland National Park (České Švýcarsko) on 16 June 2026 and spent two days wandering in dense forest and a cave. On 18 June, a joint search operation involving police units, fire‑rescue teams, park rangers and drones located him near Dravčí skála after about three hours of intensive work.

The man was unharmed but exhausted. Police provided water and escorted him to the nearest marked trail, after which firefighters transferred him by quad bike to emergency medical services. He was then taken across the border to German authorities for further care. The Czech police used his GPS coordinates, deployed a police dog, and highlighted safety advice for future hikers, emphasizing preparation, proper equipment, and staying on marked paths.

The successful rescue underscored cooperation among Czech emergency services and the importance of timely communication with rescue centres.
