German Senior Weeks Promote Elderly Participation and Dementia Support

In Bavaria, the sixth Bavarian Dementia Week will run from 19‑28 September 2025, organized by the senior services office of the Passau district and the regional health authority. More than 20 free or low‑cost events—such as animal‑assisted sessions with Icelandic horses, music‑therapy workshops, creative nature activities and art‑based communication sessions—aim to raise awareness, improve understanding of dementia and provide practical support for people with dementia, their families and the wider public.

In Brandenburg, the 32nd Brandenburg Senior Week opened on 29 May 2026 in Cottbus/Chóśebuz under the motto “Society needs experience – seniors need participation”. Chancellor Dietmar Woidke and Social Minister René Wilke attended the inauguration, awarding honors to volunteers and highlighting challenges such as loneliness among older citizens. The week runs through early June with numerous events that emphasize active involvement of seniors in community life and the importance of good pensions, health care and nursing support.
