German shipbuilding industry faces labor shortages amid growth
The German shipbuilding industry is experiencing significant growth and stable prospects, according to Reinhard Lüken, the Managing Director of the Association for Shipbuilding and Marine Technology (VSM). However, this expansion is facing a critical shortage of skilled labor.
Lüken noted that while workers from the automotive industry might transition to the sector, additional personnel from abroad are necessary to meet demand. He expressed concern regarding the potential political impact of the AfD participating in government following upcoming state elections in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Saxony-Anhalt. Lüken warned that an AfD government could cause “real damage” to the economy, particularly concerning the recruitment of foreign specialists needed to sustain shipbuilding hubs in regions like Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Saxony-Anhalt.
