German shooting guilds celebrate anniversaries and regional ties

Various German shooting guilds (Schützenvereine) are marking significant anniversaries and fostering regional connections through traditional festivals.

In Plettenberg, the Kompanie Ohle has maintained a 30-year friendship with the Schützengilde Schleusingen. Despite initial organizational hurdles and cultural differences following German reunification, the two groups have established a long-standing bond through their respective traditions.

In Dülmen, the Bürgerschützenverein celebrated its 475th anniversary. The event included a delegation from the Schützengilde Haltern, which participated in a procession through the city center. The celebration also served to officially resolve a minor historical dispute regarding a ‘bird theft’ from a previous festival in Haltern, marking a symbolic reconciliation between the two neighboring towns.
