German suspect in Cologne shooting arrested in Budapest
A 33‑year‑old German man who opened fire on a pedestrian in Cologne on 31 May, seriously injuring the victim, fled the scene and was the subject of a European arrest warrant. German investigators alerted Hungarian authorities on 10 June that the suspect might be hiding in Budapest. Within five hours, the Hungarian National Police’s Ready‑Response Unit (KR NNI), the Counter‑Terrorism Centre (TEK) and the International Crime Cooperation Centre (NEBEK) located the man in the VIII district of Budapest and detained him. He was transferred to the local police station, and the NEBEK is coordinating his extradition to Germany. The operation highlights close cross‑border police cooperation in tackling serious violent crime.
