Yemisi Mabry’s Journey: ZDF Documentary Highlights Olympic Gold
German shot‑put champion Yemisi Ogunleye, now known as Yemisi Mabry, captured Olympic gold for Germany with a 20.0‑metre throw at the Paris 2024 Games. Despite two severe knee injuries and entering the final as an outsider, she prevailed on 9 August 2024.
ZDF released the documentary "37°: Das Gold ihres Lebens – Kugelstoßerin Yemisi" on 27 July 2026. The 30‑minute film follows Mabry during a training camp in Portugal, shows her work with coach Iris Manke‑Reimers, and revisits her childhood experiences of bullying, her involvement in a gospel choir, and her Christian faith. The programme also touches on her marriage to football player Tyler Mabry and her role as a Bundeswehr sports soldier. In the interview she says, "Mir kommen irgendwie immer Tränen, wenn ich an diesen Tag denke" ("I always get tears when I think of that day").
