German SMEs Deploy Tailored AI Solutions to Boost Service and Efficiency

Tim Schlautmann, chief executive of Marketport in Warendorf, explains that artificial intelligence should be embedded in everyday business operations rather than showcased as a novelty. Marketport now positions itself as an AI agency, designing custom applications for craftsmen, retailers, mid‑size firms and industrial clients that streamline customer service, sales, marketing, quotation creation, administration and internal workflows.

In Marl, Peter Hönighaus, owner of the traditional timber company Holzland Bunzel, has introduced the AI assistant "BunzelBuddy". The chatbot engages with customers around the clock, handling inquiries and freeing staff from routine tasks while preserving the role of human employees. Both initiatives illustrate how German mid‑size enterprises are turning to practical AI tools to improve competitiveness and address labour shortages.
