German Sporthilfe Grants €3,650 to 95 Disabled Athletes

The German Sporthilfe, using funds from the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home (BMI), approved a direct support programme for 95 athletes in the A and B squads of the Deutscher Behindertensportverband (DBS). Each athlete will receive a cadre premium of roughly €3,650, with additional assistance for members of the Olympic and perspective squads of Germany’s top sports federations. The funding follows a 2018 budget amendment that allocated €3.5 million for direct athlete support, and a new disbursement pathway was established to release the money within the current year. Max Hartung, chair of the DOSB Athletes Commission and president of Athletes Germany, welcomed the move, noting that many athletes previously faced financial uncertainty while pursuing dual careers such as studies or apprenticeships.
