Owen Ansah Wins German 100m Title as Lückenkemper Takes Bronze After Tick Bite

At the German Athletics Championships in Bochum‑Wattenscheid, 25‑year‑old Owen Ansah (Hamburger SV) retained the men’s 100 m title, finishing in 10.00 seconds. His victory came despite an ongoing result‑management procedure by the National Anti‑Doping Agency (NADA) after a missed test; he remains eligible to compete and plans to address the case publicly. Ansah’s time was two‑hundredths of a second off his national record of 9.98 seconds set earlier in the season.

In the women’s race, 22‑year‑old Jolina Ernst of TV Wattenscheid claimed her first senior title with a personal best of 11.26 seconds, edging Emma Goretzka (third) and Rebekka Haase (fourth). Former champion and double European winner Gina Lückenkemper, who had previously won seven consecutive titles, finished third in 11.29 seconds. She explained that a recent tick bite to the back of her head disrupted her nervous system, caused a two‑week training loss and balance problems, and nearly led her to withdraw from the championships.

The event serves as the final domestic test before the European Championships in Birmingham (10–16 August). The German athletics federation cleared both athletes to compete while the anti‑doping investigation into Ansah continues.
