Owen Ansah faces potential four-year doping ban
German record-breaking sprinter Owen Ansah faces a potential four-year ban following an investigation by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). The agency alleges that on July 9, Ansah failed to properly facilitate or provide a doping sample during a control session prior to a Diamond League meeting in Monaco.
Ansah disputes the allegation of refusal, stating he was traveling to the airport and could not provide a sample immediately after using the restroom. His lawyer has stated that Ansah "at no time refused to undergo a doping control" and will not accept NADA's proposed four-year sanction. Instead, the athlete plans to request disciplinary proceedings through the German Sports Arbitration Court.
If Ansah accepts the proposal, the ban would be reduced to three years. The German Athletics Association (DLV) has decided that while Ansah will compete in individual 100m and 200m events at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, he will not participate in relay events to avoid the risk of post-competition disqualification and medal revocation.
