Founder Walks Mobilise Germany’s New Startup and Scaleup Strategy
On 22 July 2026 the German Federal Cabinet approved a Startup and Scaleup Strategy that contains more than 150 measures across eight fields, aiming to ease company formation, accelerate growth and retain innovation in Germany. The strategy follows a record‑breaking first half of 2026 in which over 3,000 new startups were founded – a rise of more than 50 % compared with the second half of 2025.
The “Founder Walks” format, devised by startup‑coach Holger Hagenlocher, translates the policy into regional action. At each walk participants – aspiring founders, early‑stage startups, established firms and representatives of municipal economic agencies, chambers, banks and Sparkassen – meet on a short hike followed by a networking get‑together. Organisers say the walks are not an official government programme but directly support the strategy’s objectives, especially where bureaucracy and a lack of personal contact have hindered progress.
Founder Walks have already been held in several German locations such as Überlingen on Lake Constance and are planned to roll out across the whole DACH region. Positive feedback from local partners has led to a schedule of further walks, with the long‑term goal of embedding the initiative nationwide. The broader strategy also includes financial tools such as the Zukunftsfonds, the WIN initiative targeting more than €25 billion in venture‑capital commitments, and the expansion of the High‑Tech Gründerfonds to boost startup financing.
