German students launch energy saving initiative at school
A student energy team in Germany has initiated a campaign to promote energy conservation within their school community. To demonstrate the link between energy consumption and climate change, students conducted experiments showing how burning fossil fuels releases CO2, which thickens the atmospheric layer and traps heat.
The team has compiled practical tips for the school community to reduce waste, including opening windows fully for short periods instead of leaving them tilted, turning off lights, closing doors and windows when leaving rooms, and switching off electrical devices completely rather than using standby mode. They also recommend repairing defective faucets and minimizing water usage. The initiative aims to remind the community to save energy, particularly before school holidays when rooms remain unused.
