German Sustainability Award 2026 Sets New Rules, Highlights Need for Cheaper Electricity

The 19th German Sustainability Award (DNP Unternehmen) for 2026 introduced three size classes and aligned its evaluation with the upcoming European Sustainability Award. Winners will be titled “National Champion Germany” and qualify for the European competition in 2027. Dr. Otto Schulz, board member of the awarding foundation, emphasized that sustainability must become part of corporate strength and economic future.

At the SZ Sustainability Summit in Munich, Westfalen AG CEO Thomas Perkmann called for affordable electricity as a prerequisite for achieving climate neutrality. He stressed that stable, predictable policy frameworks and lower electricity prices are essential for the market uptake of technologies such as heat pumps, which he described as the most efficient heating solution. Perkmann also warned against constantly changing regulations that create uncertainty for businesses and consumers.
