German swimmers shine at Junior European Championships in Munich

German athletes dominated the Junior European Swimming Championships in Munich. Evelyn Wegrotzki (15) placed sixth in the 200 m butterfly final, while Lara Vandenhirtz (15) broke the age record in the 50 m butterfly semifinals with a 26.56 s swim and advanced to the final. Linda Roth completed a complete medal set, adding a bronze in the 400 m freestyle after previously winning gold over 200 m freestyle and silver with the mixed medley relay.

Record‑breaking performances were seen across the meet. France’s Andreanne Bourseul set a new championship record of 26.03 s in the girls’ 50 m butterfly semifinals, and Spain’s Carlota Rodriguez Alcaide lowered the Spanish record to 26.35 s. In the women’s 4 × 100 m medley relay, the Russian team competing as Neutral Athletes matched the 2019 championship record of 4:01.83 to win gold.

Other German swimmers also featured. Larus Thiel qualified for his second individual final in the 50 m freestyle, and teammate Luisa Herrmann missed the semifinals due to the two‑athlete per‑nation rule despite a fast prelim time. The championships highlighted a strong showing by German youth swimmers and produced several national and European junior records.
