German Table Tennis Association criticizes scheduling conflicts
The German Table Tennis Association (DTTB) has expressed strong dissatisfaction with World Table Tennis (WTT) regarding scheduling conflicts in October. The European Championships in Ljubljana, Slovenia, are set to begin on October 11, which coincides with the final matches of the Grand Smash tournament in China.
Richard Prause, the German sports director, criticized the situation, noting that players may have to travel directly from the Grand Smash in China to the European Championships. He expressed hope that this scheduling overlap remains a one-time exception and that future WTT schedules will be better coordinated to avoid conflicts with international championships and domestic league play.
Despite the logistical challenges, German national coach Jörg Roßkopf has named a seven-player squad for the European Championships, including Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Dang Qiu, and Patrick Franziska.
