RTL Deutschland to cut 500 jobs following Sky Deutschland merger

RTL Deutschland is implementing significant job cuts following its acquisition of Sky Deutschland. Approximately 500 positions are expected to be eliminated by the end of 2027, with the majority of these reductions occurring during 2026.

The restructuring aims to achieve annual synergies of €250 million within three years of the merger. Management intends to reach this goal by optimizing content and non-content costs, eliminating duplicate structures, and streamlining decision-making processes. The company is shifting its strategic focus toward the streaming market to better compete with international providers.

The company stated that the cuts will be carried out in consultation with employee representatives, with an emphasis on avoiding compulsory redundancies by utilizing expiring contracts and not filling vacant positions. This follows a previous round of cuts in late 2025, where approximately 600 jobs were eliminated under the “Shift 2026” strategy.
