Fatal accidents involving German nationals in Croatia and Austria

A series of fatal accidents involving German nationals has occurred in Croatia and the Austrian Alps.

In Croatia, a Diamond HK36 Super Dimona motor glider, registered in Germany and belonging to a flying club in Schleswig-Holstein, crashed in the Velebit Mountains near Zadar. The aircraft was traveling from the Czech Republic when contact was lost on August 21. Search teams located the wreckage in the Paklenica National Park, where they recovered the bodies of two passengers, believed to be senior citizens.

In Austria, multiple mountain fatalities have been reported. A 19-year-old German man died after falling 40 meters in a climbing garden in Kals at the Großglockner. Additionally, a 64-year-old man from Darmstadt died after falling approximately 80 meters during a descent from the Olperer peak in the Zillertal Alps. Rescue efforts for the latter were hampered by poor weather conditions, preventing helicopter access to the immediate site.

Authorities in both regions have launched investigations into the causes of these incidents, including potential equipment failure, human error, or weather-related factors.
