German television ratings show competition for younger viewers

German television programming saw varied results across recent Saturday and Sunday broadcasts, particularly regarding younger demographic shares (ages 14-49).

On Saturday, ZDF's quiz show "Der Quiz-Champion" achieved significant success, drawing an average of 3.07 million viewers and a 19.6% market share. In the 14-49 demographic, it secured a 15.8% market share. RTL's broadcast of the 2. Bundesliga football match between VfL Wolfsburg and 1. FC Kaiserslautern performed well among younger viewers, capturing a 16.5% market share in the first half.

On Sunday, the cooking show "Kitchen Impossible" on Vox led the 14-49 demographic with a 12.6% market share. ProSieben also performed strongly in this group with the film "Bad Boys: Ride or Die," reaching a 12.1% market share. While private broadcasters competed for younger audiences, public broadcasters maintained dominance among the total audience, with ARD's "Tatort" leading with 3.62 million viewers.
