Phuket: German tourist dies after being swept out to sea

A 30-year-old German tourist has died following a swimming accident at Freedom Beach on the island of Phuket, Thailand. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when the man and a 28-year-old female companion were swept out to sea by strong currents and heavy waves.

While lifeguards were able to rescue the woman, the man remained missing. Search operations were initially suspended on Monday evening due to high winds, poor visibility, and rough sea conditions. Rescue teams resumed the search on Tuesday and recovered the man's body near the beach in the afternoon.

Authorities noted that red warning flags had been deployed at the beach to alert visitors to dangerous conditions. The German Embassy in Thailand is providing consular assistance and coordinating with local officials to manage the repatriation of the deceased. Officials have reiterated warnings for tourists to strictly obey red flag signals during the monsoon season.
