German tourists injured in Hurghada boat accident and hotel fire

A Berlin mother of five, Jeannine, lost her left leg after a boat motor was started too early during a snorkeling trip in Hurghada on July 24. Doctors documented severe trauma, including a nearly severed leg, massive blood loss and subsequent infection, ultimately deeming the limb unsalvageable.

In a separate incident at the Gravity Hotel in Hurghada, a German family—parents Henry and Jessica Kathke and their son Sam—escaped a night‑time fire on the fifth floor. The family reported that no fire alarm sounded and that sprinkler systems failed on their floor, forcing them to block the door with a blanket and flee via the stairs amid chaos and smoke.

Both events highlight safety concerns for German tourists in Egypt, with the boat accident prompting medical emergency response and the hotel fire raising questions about fire‑safety compliance.
