German towns celebrate annual Kulturnacht cultural festivals
The Wattenscheider Kulturnacht in Wattenscheid-Mitte, Germany, offered a multi‑venue programme of live music, literature, art, theatre and acrobatics across the historic city centre and the former Zeche Holland site. The event was organised by CentrumCultur of AWO Ruhr‑Mitte together with Citymanagement Wattenscheid and supported by local authorities and the Sparkasse Bochum.
The 22nd Wangener Kulturnacht took place on 7 August in Wangen, featuring free performances of music, theatre, literature, dance and visual art at locations throughout the town. Highlights included the Jazz Point Big Band, the Wangener Festspiele, folk band Brekkie’s Inn, and a cabaret act by actor Rainer Schupp. A special "Prato‑Abend" with the partner city of Prato was also scheduled.
Both events illustrate the growing popularity of nightly cultural festivals in German towns, providing residents with free, diverse artistic experiences and fostering community engagement.
