German towns implement tree pruning and planting to boost safety and climate

The city of Wuppertal will trim the crowns of valuable trees on the parking lot at Große Flurstraße over three mornings in calendar week 32. The work, carried out by the municipal tree‑care team, aims to ensure long‑term stability after a linden fell on the town‑hall square, preventing further felling. The parking area will remain largely usable as the work is divided into sections.

In the municipalities of Raesfeld and the village of Erle, the UWG faction has submitted a request to the mayor to plant additional shade‑providing trees in the Bürgerpark and on the village square. The proposal highlights benefits such as reduced heat on hot days, lower surface temperatures, improved storm‑water infiltration, and enhanced habitats for insects and birds. The council is asked to commission a study of suitable sites, native climate‑resilient species, and costs, with planting aimed for the autumn 2026 or spring 2027 period.
