German towns Kemnath and Augsburg revitalize urban water sites

The city of Kemnath in Bavaria completed a multi‑month restoration of its Stadtweiher, dredging the pond, replacing damaged fountain components and installing a ramp for maintenance boats. The water body, which had been drained for sediment removal, now holds water again, allowing the local youth wind band to perform at the lakeside stage and restoring the venue for public concerts.

In Augsburg, municipal officials announced the "Wege des Wassers" project to make the city’s UNESCO World Heritage canals and streams more accessible to residents. Implemented under the International Building Exhibition Munich 2034, the plan includes a digital platform, new transport links, pedestrian bridges and other infrastructure, with funding sought from public grants. The initiative aims to integrate the historic waterways into everyday urban life and boost local development.
