German towns schedule extensive school renovations over summer break

Mönchengladbach and Datteln are using the six‑week summer vacation to carry out a range of construction and refurbishment projects in their schools. In Mönchengladbach, work includes new classroom spaces, fire‑protection upgrades such as new ceilings, lighting and smoke‑proof doors, replacement of floor coverings, repainting, modernising electrical systems, and installing barrier‑free toilets. Similar initiatives in Datteln involve renewing turn‑hall fire doors, renovating school toilets, adding a folding wall to an orchestra room, modernising classrooms with new acoustic ceilings, LED lighting and presence sensors, and upgrading external toilet access and various structural elements.

These summer‑time projects aim to minimise disruption to teaching by concentrating work when students are on holiday, improving safety, accessibility and energy efficiency across the respective school facilities.
