Germany prepares for multiple firework festivals in August 2026

Several German cities are gearing up for large firework spectacles in the summer of 2026. The Kölner Lichter will take place on Saturday, 1 August in Cologne, featuring a synchronized music‑firework show, a first‑time drone display and a live broadcast hosted by Janine Breuer‑Kolo for WDR. In Lünen, the traditional Preußenhafenfest runs from 7 to 9 August with live music, family programmes and a headline fireworks display over the Datteln‑Hamm‑Canal. Schlaitdorf’s 23rd Sommernacht also occurs on 1 August, offering one of Germany’s largest music‑firework productions, built on more than 3 000 m² and requiring 350 hours of preparation. The town of Emmerich will host a “Lichterglanz” event on 25 July, with fireworks along the Rhein promenade and temporary road closures to ensure safety. Additionally, the Schotten‑Rock and Streetfood festival in the Alteburgpark will feature a three‑day street‑food market and a rock concert alongside fireworks as part of the Landesgartenschau preparations. All events draw regional crowds and include special safety or transport measures.
