German towns upgrade drinking‑water pipelines to boost supply security

The water utility TWS Netz GmbH began work on 20 July to create a ring‑closure in the drinking‑water network of Grünkraut, Germany. The project will lay about 1.2 km of new pipe in two phases – the first between Gullen‑Wiesenweg and Staig, finishing by the end of July, and the second along L335 from Staig toward Grünkraut, scheduled for late August to mid‑October. Traffic on the adjacent road and cycle path is being partially closed and rerouted during construction.

In the neighboring community of Sundern, Stadtwerke Sundern started on 22 July a full replacement of the main drinking‑water line on Grünewaldstraße after repeated pipe bursts. The section between Settlement street and Bergstraße is being rebuilt in an open trench, requiring a complete road closure and a detour. The work, carried out by Gebr. Prumbau, is expected to finish by mid‑August, improving water reliability for local residents.
