German towns Waldniel and Neumarkt host community climate‑environment events

On 12 July 2026 the second Climate‑Environment Day was held in Waldniel, a district of Schwalmtal, Germany. About 25 exhibitors offered interactive activities on renewable energy, sustainable mobility and climate adaptation. Families could try a bike‑powered smoothie maker, build paper wind turbines, ride a miniature bike, and explore a Chinese rickshaw. A repair café and a popcorn stand added to the hands‑on experience.

A week later, on 23 July 2026, the town of Neumarkt organized a free two‑hour climate walk. Limited to 25 participants, the walk, led by climate‑adaptation manager Philip Köhler and climate‑protection manager Annika Lelke, highlighted local heat‑island effects, fresh‑air corridors and shading provided by vegetation, with stops at the historic centre, city park, riverbank and airfield.

Both events aim to raise public awareness of practical climate‑protection measures in everyday settings.
