German transit operators implement measures to reduce service disruptions
Public transport operators in Germany are implementing measures to combat service disruptions caused by infrastructure issues and illegal parking.
In Cologne, the KVB fault clearance service operates 24/7 to address technical malfunctions, broken rails, and accidents. The team utilizes specialized vehicles, such as the new generation ‘Tünnes 54’, to ensure rapid response and minimize passenger delays. Their duties range from routine maintenance, such as repairing curbs, to supporting police and fire services during emergencies.
In Magdeburg, the MVB is introducing new signage to prevent tram delays caused by improperly parked vehicles. In the Genthiner Straße area, line 4 has been blocked 22 times this year alone, resulting in 436 minutes of track closures. To complement existing road markings that indicate required clearance, the new signs aim to sensitize drivers to the importance of maintaining distance from the tracks to avoid service cancellations and diversions.
