Dennis Radtke calls for €500 mobility allowance for low‑income Germans
Dennis Radtke, head of the CDU’s Arbeitnehmerflügel, proposed an annual mobility allowance of €500 for households earning less than €54,000 a year, with an additional €100 per child. He argued that a new fuel‑price rebate or a price‑cap would not target the groups most burdened by high fuel costs.
Federal Economy Minister Katherina Reiche said the earlier fuel‑price brake (the “Spritpreisbremse”) had cost the state billions of euros and that no budgetary funds are available for further measures. Transport Minister Steffen Bilger also rejected any new fuel rebate. The previous tank rebate, in effect from May to June, lowered fuel prices by about 17 cents per litre and cost roughly €1.6 billion, a measure introduced after oil prices rose following the February Iran conflict.
