Germany ICE train door opens at 200 km/h during transit

A door on a German ICE high-speed train opened unexpectedly while traveling at approximately 200 km/h on the line from Munich to Dortmund. The incident occurred on the ICE 528 service, carrying 238 passengers. The driver performed an emergency braking maneuver, bringing the train to a halt near the entrance of the Schönrain tunnel in the Karlstadt area of Lower Franconia.

Following the stop, a large-scale search operation was launched by the Federal Police, fire services, and emergency responders to determine if any passengers had fallen from the train. The search involved drones, search dogs, helicopters equipped with thermal imaging, and hundreds of personnel. Ultimately, no injuries or missing persons were reported.

Preliminary investigations by the Federal Police suggest that the door's emergency release mechanism may have been activated, though it remains unclear whether this was done intentionally or accidentally. Deutsche Bahn stated that the doors do not open spontaneously during transit and that no technical malfunction was identified on the train. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the incident.
