German TV show “Immer wieder sonntags” ends after 31 years as SWR reports €41 million surplus
The long‑running German music and entertainment programme “Immer wieder sonntags”, hosted by Stefan Mross and broadcast live from the Europa‑Park in Rust, will air its final season in 2026. Thirteen live episodes plus a best‑of special are scheduled between 31 May and 13 September, marking the 31st and last series after more than three decades on air.
The SWR announced that despite the decision to cancel the show for budgetary reasons, its 2025 financial statements show a surplus of €41 million. The broadcaster attributes the profit to strict cost‑saving measures and one‑off asset sales. An episode of the series costs roughly €250 000, but the overall surplus contrasts with the earlier justification for ending the programme, prompting discussion among fans and media about the broadcaster’s financial priorities.
