German utility providers initiate infrastructure upgrades

Utility providers in Germany are undertaking infrastructure upgrades to improve service reliability and efficiency.

In Lünen, Stadtwerke Lünen (SWL) is installing new electricity and water supply lines to support the development of the “Theo-Kleine-Weg” residential area. The project includes upgrading power lines to better accommodate renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaic systems. Due to these works, a one-way traffic regulation will be implemented on Kamener Straße from August 24, 2026, until the end of January 2027, with diversions in place to maintain property access.

In Bigge, Hochsauerlandwasser GmbH is investing approximately 280,000 euros to replace 530 meters of a main drinking water pipe dating back to the 1950s. The project involves replacing the old gray cast iron pipe with a 150-millimeter ductile iron pipe. By reducing the pipe diameter from 300 to 150 millimeters, the provider aims to minimize the risk of water stagnation caused by previous over-dimensioning. Work is currently underway in the areas of Bigger Platz, Josef-Rüther-Straße, and Stehestraße.
