Germany defeats Turkey 3-1 in European Volleyball Championship opener

The German men's national volleyball team secured a 3-1 victory against Turkey in their opening match of the 2026 CEV Men's European Volleyball Championship. The match, held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, saw Germany win the sets 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, and 25-19.

Germany competed without star attacker Georg Grozer, who was sidelined due to injury. In his absence, Theo Mohwinkel led the scoring with 16 points, supported by Erik Röhrs with 14 points. Turkey took the first set 25-23, but Germany regained momentum to win three consecutive sets.

Germany is part of Group D, which also includes France, Romania, and Switzerland. The team aims to reach the top eight in Europe and will face Latvia in their next match.
