Germany weather: Folk rules and meteorological updates

Weather patterns in Germany and Bavaria are currently drawing attention through both meteorological forecasts and traditional folklore. According to the St. Ursula folk rule, weather on October 21st is believed to predict whether Christmas will be snowy; sunshine on this day suggests little snow, while overcast or rainy conditions suggest a white Christmas.

The German Weather Service (DWD) notes that while some folk rules are based on long-term observations, there is no scientific evidence that weather on a single day in October can reliably predict conditions two months later. Current DWD forecasts for October 21st indicate heavy cloud cover and rain across much of Germany, with particularly heavy rain expected along the Alpine edge in Bavaria.

In a separate incident in Obernzell, Lower Bavaria, a fire broke out in a solar battery storage unit on a private property. The blaze released hazardous gases, prompting police to instruct local residents to keep windows and doors closed. Firefighters eventually extinguished the fire by moving the burning container into a metal vat and flooding it. Damage is estimated at approximately 10,000 euros.
