German woman on trial for killing 8‑year‑old Fabian in Klein Upahl

A 30‑year‑old woman is on trial in Rostock for the murder of eight‑year‑old Fabian, whose body was found on 14 October 2025 in a pond near the village of Klein Upahl. The prosecution alleges she stabbed the boy six times and set his body on fire.

A witness who was with the accused at the pond a day before the official discovery testified that she led him to the location, saying, “Here lies something, this is him.” The witness said the accused had previously suggested searching for Fabian and that she used a flashlight and later a thermal‑imaging camera during the night. The accused reported the discovery to police only after the body was found, claiming she stumbled upon it during a walk with her dog. She has not spoken publicly about the charges and maintains the presumption of innocence.

The trial, now in its eleventh day, focuses on whether the accused deliberately killed and burned the child or was an accidental discoverer. The court continues to hear testimony from the witness and other evidence.
