German women's basketball team loses warm-up match to Hungary

The German women's national basketball team suffered a 62-68 defeat against Hungary in a warm-up match in Göttingen. This marks the team's second consecutive loss in preparation for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in Berlin from September 4 to 13.

Head coach Olaf Lange, who recently arrived from his assistant role with the Toronto Tempo in the WNBA, noted that while the team showed resilience to close the gap in the final quarter, defensive errors and turnovers were significant issues. Alexis Peterson led the German scoring with 18 points.

The squad is currently managing several absences due to WNBA commitments and injuries. While Luisa Geiselsöder has joined the team, players such as Leonie Fiebich, Nyara Sabally, and Frieda Bühner are expected to join only shortly before the tournament begins. Additionally, Satou Sabally is sidelined following a concussion.

Germany's next preparation match is a final test against Turkey in Cologne on Thursday.
