German Wrestling Federation announces new freestyle coaching roles

The German Wrestling Federation (DRB) has announced a restructuring of its freestyle coaching responsibilities. Starting November 1, 2026, Marcel Ewald will take over as the national coach for the men's team. Ewald, 43, previously served as the national coach for the youth sector and has worked closely with many of the athletes he will now lead.

Jürgen Scheibe will return to the youth development sector as a national coach. Scheibe, an experienced trainer, will focus on training the next generation of German freestyle wrestlers and managing talent at federal training centers. DRB President Jens-Peter Nettekoven praised Scheibe’s long-standing dedication and contribution to German wrestling.

Before the new roles officially commence, Scheibe and Ewald will work together as a coaching team for the World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, scheduled from October 24 to November 1, 2025. This transition period is intended to prepare the team for upcoming international competitions and the qualification phase for the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
