German zoos announce autumn holiday programs and new arrivals
German zoos are introducing various autumn holiday programs and new animal arrivals for 2026.
Zoo Rostock has announced an extensive program running from October 15 to 25, 2026. The schedule includes guided tours, digital rallies, and educational activities focused on nature and species conservation. Highlights include a night watchman tour, a firefly tour, and a lantern festival on October 24. The Darwineum facility will offer interactive stations for children to learn about insects and owls, alongside specialized programs for ages eight to 14 regarding species protection.
Zoo Neuwied is hosting autumn attractions from October 3 to 18, 2026. A significant highlight is the arrival of a new male Red Panda, transferred from the Amiens Zoo in France as part of the EAZA Ex-situ program. The animal has successfully integrated with a female resident, and staff expressed intentions for long-term breeding. Other attractions include an autumn riddle competition and various exhibits featuring ostriches, cheetahs, and penguins.
