Germantown reparations grants aim to support Black homeownership
A new reparations initiative in the Germantown area of Philadelphia is providing grant funding to support Black homeownership. The program is a partnership between the Green Street Friends Meeting, a local Quaker congregation, and the national nonprofit birdSEED.
The initiative aims to help Black families purchase new homes or remain in the community if they are at risk of displacement due to rising costs of living and inflation. The partnership has committed upwards of $500,000 in funding over the next ten years to support these efforts.
