Germany advances hydrogen infrastructure with new projects

Germany is advancing its hydrogen infrastructure through two significant energy projects. In Schlüchtern, the Argaman Group plans to develop an H2-ready power plant in the 'Auf dem Reitstück' industrial area. With an estimated investment of 750 million euros, the facility will initially operate using fuel cells and gas to supply a planned data center in Birstein and stabilize the power grid. The plant is designed to transition to CO2-neutral hydrogen operation by 2034.

In Hamburg, Hamburger Energienetze has commenced construction of an H2-Connector at the former Moorburg power plant site. This facility will link a large-scale electrolyzer, the national hydrogen core network, and the local HH-WIN distribution network. The project includes pressure regulation and compression stations to manage varying operating pressures between the networks. Scheduled for commissioning in autumn 2027, the connector will allow Hamburg to import hydrogen from the national grid or export surplus locally produced hydrogen, with an initial export capacity of up to 200,000 norm cubic meters per hour.
