Germany advances public administration digitalization efforts
Efforts to modernize Germany's public administration through digitalization are underway, focusing on both employee experiences and technical implementation. NExT e. V. and ÖFIT have launched the ‘Verwaltungsmonitor,’ a nationwide survey designed to capture the personal perspectives of employees in federal, state, local, and social security administrations. The survey aims to understand how digital transformation affects daily work processes and where current solutions succeed or fail. Participation is open until October 2026, with results expected in early 2027.
Simultaneously, the German government is working on the ‘Deutschland-App,’ a planned administrative platform powered by generative AI. The app is intended to allow citizens to submit applications and book appointments across state lines. However, progress faces challenges due to incompatible IT standards across different federal levels. While Deutsche Telekom (via T-Systems International GmbH) serves as the general contractor, details regarding project costs, specific functionalities, and the exact involvement of companies like SAP and Schwarz Digits remain unclear in recent government responses to parliamentary inquiries.
