Germany advances tech innovation through startup incubation and fusion energy research

Germany is advancing its technological innovation landscape through both startup support and long-term energy research. The ZOLLHOF – Tech Incubator in Nuremberg, a hub for digital health and part of the federal de:hub initiative, will host an alumni tour on October 28, 2026, as part of the FAU Innovation Days. The event aims to showcase how ideas transition from prototyping to market-ready solutions through venture capital and customer testing.

In the energy sector, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is driving the ‘Mission Fusion’ initiative to develop supply chains for future fusion power plants. The goal is to decouple the energy system from the carbon cycle by providing a constant energy source to complement volatile wind and solar power. This requires significant technological leaps in high-energy laser technology, optics, reactor materials, and automated manufacturing processes to meet the projected global demand for hundreds of fusion plants.
