Germany advances to Hockey World Cup semifinals after 4-2 win over Australia
The German men's national hockey team has advanced to the semifinals of the Hockey World Cup following a 4-2 victory over Australia in Wavre, Belgium. This win was critical for the defending champions after their previous 1-2 loss to Spain.
Germany overcame an early deficit when Blake Govers scored for Australia in the 3rd minute. Hannes Müller equalized in the 11th minute, followed by a goal from Michel Struthoff in the 12th minute to give Germany a 2-1 lead. Justus Warweg extended the advantage to 3-1 in the 19th minute. Although Joel Rintala narrowed the gap to 2-3 before halftime, Hugo von Montgelas secured the win with a penalty corner goal in the 40th minute.
National coach André Henning praised the team, calling it their best performance of the tournament. The victory ensures Germany remains in contention to defend their world title.
