Germany advises drivers to exercise caution around large harvest machines

During the annual harvest season, German rural roads see a surge of oversized tractors, combine harvesters and other farm equipment. Marcellus Kaup of TÜV Süd warns motorists that these machines often have very wide turning radii and may swing far over the centre line, especially when turning right.

Drivers of cars and motorcycles are urged to stay alert, keep a safe distance, and avoid overtaking near intersections or on narrow lanes. Speed should be reduced to match road and weather conditions, as mud and debris can create slippery surfaces. Visibility of the farm vehicles' lights may be impaired by dirt, and unsecured loads such as hay bales can fall onto the road. In such situations, slowing down and being ready to brake can prevent serious collisions.
