Germany and Amgen launch health initiatives in Africa
Germany has announced a plan to increase public funding for an investment fund dedicated to African pharmaceutical companies. The initiative aims to boost local production of medicines and vaccines to foster strategic health autonomy in Africa. Minister Reem Alabali Radovan emphasized that supporting pharmaceutical independence is a strategic interest for Germany, particularly in addressing infectious diseases and protecting medical services in conflict zones like the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where Ebola remains a critical concern.
In a separate development, the American biotechnology giant Amgen has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Algerian Ministry of Health. The partnership focuses on preventing cardiovascular diseases, which account for 34% of deaths in Algeria. The collaboration aims to promote health awareness, identify risk factors, and support national efforts to modernize healthcare organization and reduce inequalities in treatment access.
