Germany and Austria advance health‑care reforms and care‑management collaboration

A joint project comparing regional care‑management systems in Tirol (Austria) and Bavaria (Germany) was launched to analyse implementation differences, legal frameworks and success factors. Funded with EU EFRE resources (€4,982 total), the initiative involves the German Society for Care and Case Management (DGCC) and the Austrian Society for Care and Case Management (ÖGCC) and will culminate in a symposium after a series of online workshops.

In parallel, German health‑care leaders warned that the current imbalance between medical needs and economic pressures must be corrected. Sibylle Strauch‑Eckmann of the Ortheum Group called for more private investment to close a €1.8 billion gap in outpatient care, asking, “Wenn wir die Versorgung sichern wollen, warum lassen wir dann nicht jede helfende Hand zu?” Others, such as Bundestag member Janosch Dahmen and BÄK President Klaus Reinhardt, cautioned against profit‑driven motives and urged stronger regulatory safeguards to protect care quality and solidarity.

Both efforts highlight a broader push to reshape health‑care delivery in the two neighbouring regions while managing the role of private capital.
