Germany and Switzerland implement new traffic safety measures

In Neustadt am Rübenberge, Germany, police and city officials have installed a temporary construction fence along the B 6‑Leinstraße entrance to Hanover. The fence, covered with mesh, blocks drivers’ view to the left in an effort to keep attention on the vehicle ahead and reduce rear‑end collisions, after a sharp rise in accidents – from twelve in 2023 to fifteen in 2025 – injured nine people. Earlier steps included vegetation, warning signs and larger stop signs, but officials will monitor the fence’s effect for six months before deciding on further actions.

In Neuhausen, Switzerland, a review of eighteen zebra crossings in the town centre concluded that most are unnecessary. The study found that the densely placed crossings, spaced roughly every 50 metres, do not inherently improve pedestrian safety, prompting the municipality to remove many of them.
