Germany and Switzerland join US, Japan and China as global millionaire count hits record
A Capgemini analysis shows that the number of people with at least one million US dollars of investable wealth rose to 25.3 million in the past year, a gain of almost two million from 2024. Global wealth grew 8.7 % to a record $98.3 trillion.
Germany moved into third place worldwide with roughly 1.78 million high‑net‑worth individuals, up 11.1 % year‑over‑year, and their collective assets increased 12.7 % to about $7.1 trillion. The United States remained the leader, adding 736 000 millionaires for a total of 8.7 million. Japan ranked second with a 436 000‑person rise, while China held fourth place with 154 000 new millionaires. Together the United States, Japan, Germany and China comprise about 65.7 % of all millionaires.
Switzerland reinforced its role as a safe‑haven wealth centre. The report estimates that cross‑border assets managed in Switzerland total roughly $2.9 trillion, placing the country second worldwide behind Hong Kong as the largest offshore wealth hub.
